The city of Eagle River is located on the Eagle River, just north of Anchorage, between the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and the Chugach State Park. Best known as the host of the annual five-day Bear Paw Festival, Eagle River also serves as a regional hub for shopping, dining, and recreation.

Shopping and Dining

Eagle River is home to numerous stores, shops, restaurants, and service providers. Old Glenn Highway, one of the city’s main shopping districts, is lined with gift stores, eateries, shops, and more. Oopsie Daisy sells unique gifts, artfully arranged floral bouquets, and plush animals. Offering exclusive coffee blends, regular live music, and a cozy atmosphere, Jitters is the perfect place to unwind on the weekend. Jalapenos Mexican Restaurant is known as much for its superb service as for its authentic Mexican cuisine. Piccolino's Restaurant serves Greek and Italian fare and the Eagle River Ale House offers a large menu and a wide variety of craft beers. Additional popular coffeehouses in the area include Tinkers Rainforest Deli and Sleepy Dog. Area grocers include Walmart, Fred Meyer, and Carrs Safeway.

Nestled at the foot of the Chugach Mountains, Eagle River real estate offers convenient access to the region’s best outdoor activities. Residents also can play or take in a game at the Russell Oberg Soccer Complex or play a round on Schroeder Park’s 9-hole disc golf course.

The Eagle River Nature Center, located at the entrance to the Chugach State Park, offers interpretive education, resource protection, and various outdoor hiking opportunities. From the center, visitors can hike the historic Crow Pass Trail to the nearby town of Girdwood or access the Rodak Nature and Albert Loop Trails, two of the park’s most popular trails. The Harry J. McDonald Memorial Center on Harry McDonald Rd. features a two-lane walking and jogging track, a new multi-use turf field, two community meeting rooms, and an Olympic-sized skating rink. The Eagle River area is also home to more than two dozen parks, a soccer club, a Nordic ski club, and an archery club.
